Celadon glaze fires an aqua /grey blue in reduction but a yellow in oxidation. This vase was in the reduction firing, but sometimes air leaks happen and cause oxidation. That must have happened around this vase because it has a yellow spot that transitions gradually into the blue.
When you're trying to get all of one color, this might be frustrating. But for me, I loved this surprise when the vase came out of the kiln.
Another unique aspect of celadon glaze is that where it runs thin, it creates a rust color. This happens with some other glazes too, but I especially like it when it occurs with celadon glaze.
