ABOUT vase 4

I call this a "puckered vase" because it looks like puckered lips. To create this shape, I have to wait for the clay to be dry enough to touch without the clay sticking to my fingers or leaving finger prints, but not too dry that shaping it could crack.

I first created this shape because I was curious how the body of the piece would be affected if I pushed the rim of a vase from opposite sides into each other. I love how it seems to create movement in a still piece as if it were falling into itself.

Firing: Oxidation high fire

Clay: Coleman Porcelain

Made with glazes at Echo Ceramics
